A delicious and comforting Venezuelan dish featuring crunchy, golden arepas filled with melted cheese, perfect for any meal.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups arepa flour (masa harina)
  • 2 cups warm water
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (such as mozzarella or queso blanco)
  • Cooking oil for frying

Instructions

  1. Combine the arepa flour, warm water, and salt in a bowl to form a dough. Rest for 5-10 minutes.
  2. Divide the dough into golf ball-sized portions and shape into patties approximately 1/2 inch thick.
  3. Place shredded cheese in the center of half of the patties, then seal with the remaining patties by pressing the edges.
  4. Heat oil in a skillet over medium heat and fry the arepas for 4-5 minutes on each side until golden brown.
  5. Serve warm, allowing the cheese to melt and enjoy!

Notes

For extra flavor, experiment with different cheeses or add herbs and spices to the dough.
