A luxurious twist on classic French toast, featuring a creamy custard base topped with a crunchy caramelized sugar crust.

Ingredients

  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 8 slices of thick bread (like brioche)
  • Sugar for topping
  • Butter for greasing
  • Optional: fresh fruit, whipped cream

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a baking dish with butter.
  2. Whisk together the eggs, heavy cream, milk, vanilla extract, sugar, and cinnamon in a large bowl.
  3. Arrange the slices of bread in the greased baking dish, then pour the egg mixture over the top.
  4. Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes or overnight for best results.
  5. Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes until the top is golden brown.
  6. Sprinkle a layer of sugar on top and use a kitchen torch to caramelize until crispy.
  7. Serve warm with fresh fruit and whipped cream if desired.

Notes

For extra flavor, try using flavored creamers or almond extract. Day-old bread works best for soaking.
