Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup brown butter
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1/2 cup maple syrup
  • 1 cup powdered sugar (for glaze)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×9 inch baking pan.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until well combined.
  3. In another bowl, beat the brown butter and brown sugar until you have a smooth mixture.
  4. Add the eggs one at a time to the butter-sugar mix, incorporating the vanilla extract and buttermilk as you go. Ensure everything is mixed well.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture until just combined, being careful not to overmix.
  6. Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan, spreading it evenly to ensure even baking.
  7. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  8. While the bars are baking, whisk together the maple syrup and powdered sugar to create your glaze.
  9. Once the bars are cooled, drizzle the maple glaze generously over the top and allow it to set before slicing them into bars.
  10. Cut into bars, serve and enjoy your cozy, homemade donut bars!
