A luxurious twist on a classic favorite, this Crème Brûlée French Toast features a crunchy, caramelized layer on top with a soft and creamy interior.

  • 1 loaf of French bread
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup of heavy cream
  • 1 cup of milk
  • 1/2 cup of granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon of salt
  • Butter for cooking
  • Brown sugar for caramelizing
  • Fresh berries for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Slice the French bread into thick slices, about 1 to 2 inches each.
  2. Whisk together the eggs, heavy cream, milk, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, and salt until smooth.
  3. Soak each slice of bread in the egg mixture, ensuring both sides are thoroughly soaked.
  4. Melt butter in a skillet over medium heat until bubbly.
  5. Cook soaked bread slices until golden brown on both sides, about 3-4 minutes per side.
  6. Transfer cooked slices to a baking sheet and sprinkle brown sugar on top.
  7. Caramelize the sugar using a kitchen torch until golden and crispy.
  8. Serve warm with fresh berries on the side, if desired.

Notes

Best enjoyed fresh, but can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. Reheat in a skillet for best texture.
