Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 packet (2 1/4 tsp) active dry yeast
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup butter, melted
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup cream cheese
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/4 cup butter, softened
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 23 tbsp milk (for frosting)

Instructions

  1. Activate the yeast: In a mixing bowl, combine warm milk, yeast, and granulated sugar. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.
  2. Mix the dry ingredients: In a large bowl, mix together 3 cups of flour and salt.
  3. Combine the ingredients: Add the yeast mixture, melted butter, eggs, and vanilla extract. Mix until combined.
  4. Form the dough: Gradually add the remaining flour until you form a dough. Knead on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until smooth.
  5. Allow the dough to rise: Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise for about 1 hour until doubled in size.
  6. Roll out the dough: Roll out the dough into a rectangle. Spread softened butter on top, then sprinkle with brown sugar and cinnamon.
  7. Shape the cinnamon rolls: Roll the dough tightly and cut into rolls. Place in a greased baking dish.
  8. Final rise: Cover and let rise for another 30 minutes.
  9. Preheat and bake: Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake the rolls for about 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
  10. Make the frosting: For the frosting, beat cream cheese, powdered sugar, softened butter, vanilla extract, and milk until smooth.
  11. Frost and serve: Frost the warm cinnamon rolls before serving.

Notes

Make sure your milk is warm but not hot (about 110°F) to properly activate the yeast. Don’t rush the rising processes for the best texture.
