A heartwarming Indian Chicken Curry with a harmonious balance of spices and tender chicken, perfect for family dinners.

  • 1 kg chicken, cut into pieces
  • 2 onions, finely chopped
  • 2 tomatoes, chopped
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 inch ginger, grated
  • 2 green chilies, slit
  • 1 cup yogurt
  • 2 tsp cumin seeds
  • 2 tsp coriander powder
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp garam masala
  • Salt to taste
  • Fresh cilantro, for garnish
  • 2 tbsp cooking oil

Instructions

  1. Heat oil in a large pan over medium heat and add cumin seeds. Let them crackle and release their nutty aroma.
  2. Add the finely chopped onions. Sauté until they turn golden brown.
  3. Stir in the minced garlic, grated ginger, and slit green chilies. Cook for another minute.
  4. Add the chopped tomatoes and cook until they soften.
  5. Sprinkle in the coriander powder, turmeric powder, and salt. Cook for a couple of minutes.
  6. Add the chicken pieces, mixing well to coat them with the spice mixture. Cook until browned.
  7. Reduce the heat, add the yogurt, and stir well.
  8. Cover the pan and let it simmer for 20-25 minutes.
  9. Stir in the garam masala and adjust seasoning if needed.
  10. Garnish with fresh cilantro before serving.

Notes

This dish pairs beautifully with steamed basmati rice or naan. Adjust spice levels according to taste.
