Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 1/4 cup red food coloring
  • 1 packet active dry yeast
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 cup cream cheese
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar

Instructions

  1. Mix warm buttermilk and yeast, letting it sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
  2. Combine flour, sugar, cocoa powder, and salt in another bowl.
  3. Add yeast mixture, softened butter, vanilla extract, and red food coloring to dry ingredients. Mix until a dough forms.
  4. Knead the dough for about 5-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  5. Cover the dough and let it rise until doubled in size, about 1 hour.
  6. Roll out the dough into a rectangle, then spread softened butter over it. Sprinkle sugar and ground cinnamon evenly on top.
  7. Roll the dough tightly and cut it into slices, each about 1 inch thick.
  8. Place the rolls in a greased baking dish, cover, and let them rise for another 30 minutes.
  9. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake for 25-30 minutes until golden and cooked through.
  10. Mix cream cheese and powdered sugar until smooth. Drizzle over warm cinnamon rolls just before serving.
