A rich and flavorful Italian Bolognese sauce that perfects the art of comfort food, using fresh ingredients and traditional techniques.

  • 1 lb Italian sausage
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 carrot, diced
  • 1 celery stalk, diced
  • 1 can (28 oz) crushed tomatoes
  • 1 cup red wine
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh basil or oregano (optional)
  • Pasta of your choice

Instructions

  1. Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
  2. Add the diced onion, carrot, and celery, and sauté until softened, about 5-7 minutes.
  3. Add the minced garlic and cook for another minute, until fragrant.
  4. Brown the Italian sausage, breaking it apart with a spoon, and cook until browned, about 5-7 minutes.
  5. Pour in the red wine and let it simmer for a few minutes to cook off the alcohol and deepen the flavor.
  6. Incorporate the crushed tomatoes, season with salt and pepper, and add herbs if using.
  7. Simmer gently for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  8. Serve the sauce over your choice of cooked pasta, and enjoy this hearty dish.
