A comforting dish of Baked Ziti filled with layers of pasta, rich meat sauce, and creamy cheeses that brings families together.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ziti pasta
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 pound ground beef or Italian sausage
  • 2 cups marinara sauce
  • 15 ounces ricotta cheese
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh basil for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Cook the ziti pasta according to package instructions until al dente, then drain.
  3. Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic, sautéing until soft.
  4. Add the ground beef or Italian sausage to the skillet, cooking until browned.
  5. Stir in the marinara sauce and let it simmer for about 5 minutes.
  6. Combine the cooked ziti, ricotta cheese, half of the mozzarella cheese, and the meat sauce in a large bowl.
  7. Transfer the mixture to a greased 9×13-inch baking dish and top with remaining mozzarella and Parmesan cheese.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden.
  9. Garnish with fresh basil if desired before serving.

Notes

Leftovers can be stored in airtight containers in the refrigerator for 3-4 days or frozen for 2-3 months. Reheat in the oven.
