Deliciously flaky pastries filled with rich berry jam, perfect for brunch or dessert.

Ingredients

  • 1 package (17.3 oz / 490g) frozen puff pastry (Thawed but kept cold)
  • 1 cup (320g) dark red mixed berry jam (Or high-quality preserves)
  • 1 tbsp (8g) cornstarch (To thicken the jam)
  • 1 tbsp (8g) all-purpose flour (For dusting the surface)
  • 1 large egg (For the egg wash)
  • 1 tbsp (15ml) water (For the egg wash)
  • 1 cup (120g) powdered sugar (Sifted)
  • 12 tbsp (15-30ml) whole milk (To thin the glaze)
  • 0.5 tsp (2ml) vanilla extract (For flavor)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Sprinkle a light dusting of flour on your work surface.
  3. Lay the thawed puff pastry sheet and roll it out gently.
  4. In a bowl, combine the berry jam with cornstarch until smooth.
  5. Using a knife, slice the rolled pastry into long strips, about 1 inch wide.
  6. Spoon the berry filling onto the center of each pastry strip.
  7. Take each strip, fold it over, and twist it to create a spiral shape.
  8. In a small bowl, whisk together the egg and water for the egg wash.
  9. Place the twisted pastries on a lined baking sheet and brush them with the egg wash.
  10. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown and puffed.
  11. Let the twists cool slightly and drizzle with the glaze made from powdered sugar, vanilla, and milk.

Notes

Serve with coffee or tea, and pair with fresh fruits or ice cream for dessert. Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days.
