A comforting breakfast dish of fluffy biscuits smothered in rich sausage gravy, perfect for any meal.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 3/4 cup buttermilk
  • 1 pound sausage
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour (for gravy)
  • 2 cups milk
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. Combine flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in a large bowl.
  3. Cut in the cold, cubed butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Add the buttermilk and stir until just combined.
  5. Knead the dough gently and roll it out to about 1-inch thickness.
  6. Cut into rounds using a biscuit cutter.
  7. Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until golden brown.
  8. Cook the sausage in a skillet over medium heat until browned.
  9. Make the gravy by stirring in flour and cooking for 1-2 minutes. Gradually whisk in milk until thickened; season with salt and pepper.
  10. Serve the biscuits topped with the warm sausage gravy.

Notes

For a complete breakfast, serve with sunny-side-up eggs or crispy hash browns.
