A classic dessert featuring fluffy cake, creamy filling, and rich chocolate ganache.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 4 oz semisweet chocolate

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two round cake pans.
  2. Combine flour, baking powder, and salt in a bowl.
  3. Cream together butter and sugar until light and fluffy in another bowl.
  4. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Mix in the vanilla.
  5. Gradually add the flour mixture and milk, alternating until just combined.
  6. Pour the batter into prepared pans and bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Allow to cool.
  7. Whip the heavy cream with powdered sugar until soft peaks form for the filling.
  8. Once cakes are cooled, place one layer on a serving plate, spread with whipped cream, and top with the second cake layer.
  9. Melt the chocolate and pour over the top, spreading evenly. Let set before serving.

Notes

Make sure your butter is at room temperature for easier mixing. Allow the cakes to cool completely before adding the filling and chocolate. For a smoother chocolate ganache, stir it continuously while melting to prevent overheating.
