A comforting pasta casserole that combines the flavors of a classic cheeseburger with layers of creamy cheese and hearty pasta.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb short pasta (like elbow macaroni or shells)
  • 1 lb lean ground beef (85/15 or 90/10)
  • 1 medium yellow onion (diced)
  • 2 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 15 oz canned diced tomatoes (undrained)
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 3 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese (divided)
  • 1/2 cup whole milk
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Cook the pasta according to package directions until al dente. Drain it and set it aside.
  3. Cook the ground beef and diced onion together until browned. Drain any excess grease.
  4. Add the minced garlic and cook for about one minute.
  5. Stir in the diced tomatoes, beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Simmer for about 5 minutes.
  6. Reduce heat to low and add whole milk and 2 cups of shredded cheese. Stir until melted.
  7. Add the cooked pasta and mix until well coated.
  8. Transfer the mixture to a 9×13 inch baking dish and spread it evenly.
  9. Sprinkle the remaining 1 cup of cheese on top.
  10. Bake for 15-20 minutes until bubbly and golden.
  11. Let it rest for 5-10 minutes before serving.

Notes

This casserole pairs well with a light salad or garlic bread. Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
