A delightful one-pan meal combining tender orzo with creamy garlic and Parmesan cheese for a comforting dinner.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 tbsp Olive Oil
  • 1 tbsp Unsalted Butter
  • 4 cloves Garlic (minced)
  • 1.5 cups Orzo (uncooked)
  • 4 cups Chicken Broth (low sodium)
  • 0.5 cup Heavy Cream
  • 0.75 cup Parmesan Cheese (freshly grated)
  • 0.5 tsp Salt (or to taste)
  • 0.25 tsp Black Pepper (freshly ground)
  • 2 tbsp Fresh Parsley (chopped, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Heat the Pan: In a large skillet over medium heat, add the olive oil and butter.
  2. Sauté the Garlic: Once the butter is melted, add the minced garlic and cook for 30-60 seconds until fragrant.
  3. Toast the Orzo: Add the uncooked orzo and stir continuously for 2-3 minutes until lightly toasted and golden.
  4. Add the Chicken Broth: Pour in the chicken broth, stir well, and bring the mixture to a simmer.
  5. Simmer Away: Reduce the heat to low, cover the skillet, and let it cook for 10-12 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking. Cook until the orzo is al dente and has absorbed most of the liquid.
  6. Create Creamy Goodness: Uncover the skillet and stir in the heavy cream and grated Parmesan cheese. Continue to stir gently over low heat until the cheese has melted and a creamy sauce forms.
  7. Season and Garnish: Season with salt and pepper to taste. Remove from heat, garnish with fresh parsley, and serve immediately.

Notes

To reheat, add a splash of chicken broth or water to loosen the sauce and warm on low heat until heated through. This dish can also be made with vegetable broth for a vegetarian option.
