  • ¾ cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons sea salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 cups Panko breadcrumbs
  • 2 teaspoons Italian seasoning
  • 12 ounces low moisture mozzarella cheese, cut into pieces 3 inches x ¾ inch (or 12 oz string cheese cut in half)
  • Homemade marinara, for dipping
  • 1 quart vegetable oil

Instructions

  1. Prepare the flour coating by mixing together the flour, sea salt, black pepper, and garlic powder in a shallow bowl.
  2. Beat the eggs in a separate bowl until fully beaten.
  3. Combine the Panko breadcrumbs with the Italian seasoning in another bowl.
  4. Coat each mozzarella stick first in the seasoned flour, then in the beaten eggs, and finally in the Panko mixture.
  5. Freeze the coated sticks on a baking sheet for at least 30 minutes.
  6. Heat the vegetable oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 375°F (190°C).
  7. Fry the sticks in batches for about 30 seconds on each side until golden brown.
  8. Drain the fried mozzarella sticks on paper towels and serve hot with marinara for dipping.

Notes

Freezing the sticks is crucial to achieve the perfect crispy texture. Adjust seasonings to taste for a customized flavor.
