Delicious mini blooming onions with a crispy exterior and soft, flavorful inside, made healthier in an air fryer.

Ingredients

  • 2 large onions
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • Cooking spray

Instructions

  1. Prepare the onions by cutting the ends and peeling them, then slice into bloom shapes without cutting all the way through.
  2. Mix the flour, paprika, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper in a bowl until well combined.
  3. Dip each onion in buttermilk, ensuring it’s well-coated.
  4. Coat each onion with the flour mixture, making sure they are well covered.
  5. Dip the onions back into the buttermilk for a second coating.
  6. Coat the onions with breadcrumbs, packing them tightly for the perfect crispy layer.
  7. Place the onions in the air fryer basket, spray lightly with cooking spray, and cook at 375°F for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown and crispy, flipping halfway through.
  8. Serve warm with your favorite dipping sauce.

Notes

Pair with barbecue sauce, ranch, or spicy aioli for a delicious dip. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
