Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 pounds pork shoulder
  • 1 cup barbecue sauce
  • 1 onion, sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
  • Buns for serving

Instructions

  1. Place the sliced onion and minced garlic in the bottom of the crockpot.
  2. Rub the pork shoulder with smoked paprika, salt, black pepper, and cayenne (if using).
  3. Place the seasoned pork over the onions in the crockpot.
  4. Pour the barbecue sauce generously over the pork.
  5. Cover and cook on low for 480 minutes or until the pork is so tender it shreds easily.
  6. Remove the pork from the crockpot and shred using two forks.
  7. Return the shredded pork to the crockpot and mix it with the sauce so every piece is coated.
  8. Serve the delicious pulled pork on buns, ready for your guests or a satisfying meal for yourself.

Notes

For maximum flavor, let the pork shoulder marinate with the spices overnight before cooking. For a crispy finish, broil shredded pork for a few minutes after cooking.
