A classic French sandwich layered with ham, cheese, and topped with a sunny-side-up egg, perfect for brunch or a comforting lunch.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 slices of bread
  • 2 slices of ham
  • 2 slices of cheese (Gruyère or Emmental)
  • 1 egg
  • Butter
  • Milk (optional)
  • Salt
  • Pepper

Instructions

  1. Preheat the skillet over medium heat.
  2. Spread butter generously on one side of each slice of bread.
  3. Assemble the sandwich with one slice of bread buttered side down, layer with ham and cheese, then top with the second slice, buttered side up.
  4. Sizzle the sandwich until the bottom slice is golden brown, then flip and cook the other side until golden.
  5. Fry the egg sunny-side up in a separate pan.
  6. Final touch: Place the fried egg on top of the sandwich.
  7. Serve warm, optionally seasoned with salt and pepper.

Notes

For an even richer sandwich, mix a little milk with your butter before spreading. Use a weight on top of the sandwich while cooking for an even crust. Experiment with different cheeses for unique flavors.
