Homemade Bolognese Sauce

A rich and comforting Italian Bolognese sauce packed with flavor, perfect for family gatherings and cozy dinners.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound Italian sausage
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1 carrot, chopped
  • 1 celery stalk, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 can (28 ounces) canned tomatoes
  • 1 cup red wine
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • Salt to taste
  • Pepper to taste
  • Italian herbs (such as oregano and basil)

Instructions

  1. Heat the olive oil in a large pot over medium heat.
  2. Add chopped onion, carrot, and celery into the pot, cooking until softened.
  3. Stir in minced garlic and cook for an additional minute.
  4. Add Italian sausage and ground beef, cooking until browned.
  5. Stir in the tomato paste, cooking for a few minutes until it darkens.
  6. Pour in red wine, scraping the bottom of the pot to deglaze.
  7. Add canned tomatoes, salt, pepper, and Italian herbs, stirring everything together.
  8. Simmer on low heat for at least 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  9. Serve over your favorite pasta, such as spaghetti or fettuccine.

Notes

For enhanced flavor, serve with freshly grated Parmesan and garlic bread.
