A simple and delicious focaccia bread recipe with a crispy exterior and soft, tender center, perfect for any meal or snack.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups warm water
  • 2 teaspoons sugar
  • 2 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • Sea salt for topping
  • Fresh herbs (like rosemary or thyme) for topping

Instructions

  1. Activate the yeast: In a bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
  2. Create the dough base: In a large mixing bowl, mix flour and salt. Create a well in the center and add the yeast mixture and olive oil.
  3. Form the dough: Mix until a dough forms. Knead for about 5-10 minutes until smooth.
  4. First rise: Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise for 1-2 hours or until doubled in size.
  5. Preheat the oven: Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).
  6. Shape the dough: Punch down the dough and transfer it to a greased baking sheet. Stretch and shape the dough to fit the pan.
  7. Second rise: Cover and let it rise again for about 30 minutes.
  8. Prepare for baking: Dimple the surface of the dough with your fingers, drizzle with olive oil, and sprinkle with sea salt and herbs.
  9. Bake: Bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.
  10. Cool and serve: Let it cool slightly before slicing and serving.

Notes

For variations, try adding garlic to the olive oil or using different herbs. Store focaccia in an airtight container for up to 3 days or freeze for up to 3 months.
