A comforting French Dip Sandwich featuring tender beef roast, gooey provolone cheese, and a rich au jus for dipping.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 pounds beef roast (such as ribeye or sirloin)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 onion, sliced
  • 4 cups beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 4 hoagie rolls
  • Sliced provolone cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 325°F (165°C). Season the beef roast with olive oil, salt, and pepper, then sear until browned on all sides.
  2. Sauté the sliced onions in the same skillet until softened, about 5 minutes.
  3. Pour in the beef broth and Worcestershire sauce, stir, and then pour over the roast in a baking dish.
  4. Cover the dish tightly with aluminum foil and bake in the oven for about 2 hours until the meat is fork-tender.
  5. Remove the roast from the oven, allow it to rest for 10 minutes, then slice thinly against the grain.
  6. Assemble the sandwiches by placing sliced beef in hoagie rolls, topping with provolone cheese, and serving with the dipping broth.

Notes

For added flavor, consider marinating the beef overnight. Slice against the grain for optimal tenderness.
