A delightful pastry filled with almond paste, perfect for gatherings and holiday celebrations.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 1/2 cup cream cheese, cold and cubed
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup almond paste or marzipan
  • 1/4 cup sliced almonds
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 23 tablespoons milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Mix flour and salt in a large bowl.
  2. Cut in butter and cream cheese until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Chill the dough in plastic wrap for at least 1 hour.
  4. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  5. Roll out the chilled dough into a rectangle.
  6. Spread the almond paste evenly over the rolled-out dough.
  7. Fold the dough over into thirds, enclosing the almond paste.
  8. Roll and fold the dough again to build layers.
  9. Shape the dough into a ring and pinch the ends together.
  10. Brush the top with beaten egg and sprinkle with sliced almonds.
  11. Bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
  12. Prepare the glaze by mixing powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract.
  13. Drizzle the glaze over the warm kringle before serving.

Notes

Allow the kringle to cool slightly before glazing for the best results.
