Homemade Baklava

A delightful dessert made with flaky phyllo dough, rich walnuts, and sweet honey syrup.

Ingredients

  • 1 package of phyllo dough
  • 2 cups of walnuts, finely chopped
  • 1 cup of butter, melted
  • 1 cup of sugar
  • 1 cup of water
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon
  • 1 cup of honey

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Brush the bottom of your baking dish with melted butter.
  3. Unroll the phyllo dough and layer half of the sheets in the dish, brushing with melted butter between each.
  4. Combine walnuts, sugar, and cinnamon in a bowl, mix well, and spread over phyllo layers.
  5. Layer the remaining phyllo sheets, brushing each one with melted butter.
  6. Cut the baklava into diamond shapes using a sharp knife.
  7. Bake for about 50 minutes until golden brown and crisp.
  8. Combine sugar, water, honey, and vanilla in a saucepan; bring to boil and simmer for about 10 minutes.
  9. Pour hot syrup over baked baklava and let it soak for several hours or overnight.

Notes

Baklava stores well in an airtight container for up to a week or frozen for three months.
