A fragrant and vibrant homemade pesto recipe made with fresh basil, Parmesan cheese, garlic, pine nuts, and olive oil.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups fresh basil leaves
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/2 cup extra virgin olive oil
  • 1/3 cup pine nuts
  • 3 garlic cloves
  • Salt to taste

Instructions

  1. Combine the fresh basil leaves, grated Parmesan cheese, pine nuts, and garlic in a food processor.
  2. Pulse the mixture until it is finely chopped, watching to avoid over-processing.
  3. Add the extra virgin olive oil while the processor is running to achieve a smooth and emulsified mixture.
  4. Season with salt to taste once the desired consistency is reached.
  5. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator or use immediately. It also freezes beautifully.

Notes

Use the freshest basil possible. Adjust consistency with olive oil or water if needed.
