A comforting and easy French toast casserole perfect for brunch, delivering indulgent flavors and a delightful crunch.

  • 1 loaf of bread (preferably stale or day-old)
  • 6 large eggs
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • Butter (for greasing the baking dish)
  • Maple syrup (for serving)
  • Powdered sugar (optional, for serving)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Grease a 9″x13″ baking dish with butter.
  3. Cut the bread into cubes and place them in the dish.
  4. Whisk together the eggs, milk, sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and salt.
  5. Pour the egg mixture over the bread cubes, ensuring they are evenly coated.
  6. Chill in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes (or overnight).
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes, or until golden and set.
  8. Let cool slightly and serve with maple syrup and optional powdered sugar.

Notes

For extra indulgence, add chocolate chips or nuts to the mixture. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days or freeze for up to 2 months.
