  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Oil for frying
  • Powdered sugar for dusting

Instructions

  1. Whisk the flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt, and nutmeg together in a bowl.
  2. Combine the sour cream, granulated sugar, softened butter, egg, and vanilla extract until smooth in another bowl.
  3. Merge the dry ingredients into the wet mixture, mixing until just combined.
  4. Chill the dough by covering it and refrigerating for at least 1 hour.
  5. Heat oil in a deep fryer to 375°F (190°C).
  6. Roll out the dough on a floured surface to 1/2 inch thick and cut into donut shapes.
  7. Fry the donuts in batches until golden brown, about 1-2 minutes per side.
  8. Drain the fried donuts on paper towels to absorb excess oil.
  9. Dust each donut with powdered sugar before serving and enjoy warm.
