Ingredients

  • 6 medium apples (e.g., Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter (1/2 stick)
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Wash and peel the apples.
  2. Slice the apples into uniform slices, roughly 1/2 inch thick.
  3. Combine the sliced apples with sugar, cinnamon, and lemon juice in a bowl.
  4. Prepare the slow cooker by greasing it lightly with butter.
  5. Load the coated apple slices into the slow cooker.
  6. Melt the butter in a microwave-safe bowl and stir in the water and vanilla extract.
  7. Pour the melted butter mixture over the apples.
  8. Slow cook on low heat for about 3 hours, stirring occasionally.
  9. Cool slightly before serving.
  10. Serve warm, optionally with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
