A nostalgic dessert with layers of creamy pudding, ripe bananas, and crunchy vanilla wafers, perfect for family gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 23 ripe bananas
  • 1 box of vanilla wafers
  • 1 cup of milk
  • 1 cup of heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup of sugar
  • 3 tablespoons of cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
  • 3 egg yolks
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. Whisk together the sugar, cornstarch, and a pinch of salt in a medium saucepan. Gradually add the milk while whisking. Cook over medium heat until thickened, stirring continuously.
  2. Whisk the egg yolks in a separate bowl. Slowly pour some hot mixture into the yolks while whisking to temper them. Return the mixture to the saucepan and cook for another minute.
  3. Remove the saucepan from heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. Layer the dessert in a trifle dish starting with vanilla wafers, then sliced bananas, and pudding. Repeat until ingredients are used, finishing with pudding on top.
  5. Whip the heavy cream until soft peaks form, then spread it over the pudding.
  6. Chill the dessert in the refrigerator for at least 4 hours before serving.

Notes

Use ripe bananas for better flavor. Whisk continuously while cooking to avoid lumps. Don’t skip the chilling time.
