A delightful casserole filled with layers of custardy bread and fresh strawberries, perfect for brunches and holidays.

Ingredients

  • 1 loaf of bread, cubed
  • 4 cups of fresh strawberries, sliced
  • 6 large eggs
  • 2 cups of milk
  • 1/2 cup of sugar
  • 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon of cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon of salt
  • Powdered sugar for serving

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  2. Place the cubed bread and sliced strawberries in the baking dish.
  3. Whisk together the eggs, milk, sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and salt until frothy.
  4. Pour the egg mixture evenly over the bread and strawberries.
  5. Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes, or overnight.
  6. Bake uncovered for 45-50 minutes, until golden brown and set in the center.
  7. Let the casserole cool slightly, then dust with powdered sugar before serving.

Notes

Use day-old bread for the best texture and consider mixed fruits like blueberries or bananas.
