A comforting and hearty dish that embodies warmth and togetherness, these Swedish meatballs are perfect for family dinners and gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1/2 lb ground pork
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/4 cup minced onion
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 tsp ground allspice
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 cup heavy cream

Instructions

  1. Combine the meat mixture by mixing together the ground beef, ground pork, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, onion, milk, egg, salt, pepper, nutmeg, and allspice until well combined.
  2. Roll the mixture into small meatballs, about 1 inch in diameter.
  3. Brown the meatballs in a large skillet with heated butter over medium heat until browned on all sides, about 8-10 minutes.
  4. Remove the meatballs from the skillet and set them aside.
  5. Create the gravy by adding beef broth to the same skillet and scraping the base to release flavorful bits. Bring to a simmer.
  6. Add the heavy cream and return the meatballs to the skillet.
  7. Simmer for an additional 10-15 minutes until the meatballs are cooked through and the sauce has thickened slightly.
  8. Serve warm with lingonberry sauce and mashed potatoes for the ultimate comfort meal.

Notes

For variation, adding spices like cayenne pepper or fresh herbs can enhance the dish. Leftover meatballs can be stored for up to 3 days in the fridge.
