A classic Italian dessert combining rich coffee flavors and creamy mascarpone cheese.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 egg yolks
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 2/3 cup milk
  • 1 1/4 cups heavy cream
  • 8 ounces mascarpone cheese
  • 1 cup brewed espresso, cooled
  • 1/4 cup coffee liqueur (optional)
  • 24 ladyfinger cookies
  • Cocoa powder for dusting

Instructions

  1. In a saucepan, whisk together egg yolks and sugar until creamy. Add milk and cook over medium heat, stirring until thickened. Cool slightly.
  2. In a bowl, whip heavy cream until soft peaks form. Fold in mascarpone cheese until smooth.
  3. In a shallow dish, mix together espresso and coffee liqueur.
  4. Dip ladyfingers quickly into the espresso mixture and layer them in a serving dish.
  5. Spread half of the mascarpone mixture over the ladyfingers. Repeat layers.
  6. Cover and refrigerate for at least 240 minutes or overnight.
  7. Before serving, dust the top with cocoa powder.

Notes

Make sure to use cooled espresso to avoid soggy ladyfingers. For a lighter version, you can use whipped topping instead of heavy cream.
