A comforting and quick dish featuring pasta, canned tuna, and a rich tomato sauce. Perfect for weeknight dinners.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 400g Canned tomato sauce or crushed tomatoes
  • 2 cans Canned tuna in olive oil
  • 1 Onion, finely chopped
  • 23 Garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 teaspoon Dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon Dried basil
  • Salt, to taste
  • Pepper, to taste
  • 2 tablespoons Olive oil
  • Pasta (penne or spaghetti)
  • Reserved pasta water, as needed

Instructions

  1. Cook the pasta by boiling a large pot of salted water. Add pasta and cook until al dente. Drain and set aside, reserving a cup of pasta water.
  2. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add onion and sauté until translucent, about 5 minutes. Stir in minced garlic and cook for another minute.
  3. Pour in the tomato sauce and stir well. Bring to a gentle simmer.
  4. Add oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. Let simmer for 10-15 minutes to meld flavors.
  5. Stir in the drained tuna, cooking for an additional 5 minutes to warm it through.
  6. Add the drained pasta to the skillet, tossing to coat. If too thick, add reserved pasta water to adjust the consistency.
  7. Plate the pasta and finish with a drizzle of olive oil and chopped basil. Serve warm and enjoy!

Notes

Reserve some pasta water to adjust sauce texture if needed. For a vegetarian version, replace tuna with chickpeas or lentils.
