A heartwarming dessert featuring juicy apples and a soft, snickerdoodle-like topping that brings warmth and comfort to any gathering.

Ingredients

  • 4 cups apple slices
  • 2 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar (plus 2 tbsp for topping)
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon (plus 1 tsp for topping)
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp cream of tartar
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 tbsp milk

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F.
  2. Combine the apple slices with lemon juice, 1/2 cup of sugar, 1 tsp cinnamon, cornstarch, and 1/4 tsp salt in a mixing bowl.
  3. Transfer the apple mixture into a greased 8-inch baking dish.
  4. Whisk together the flour, baking powder, cream of tartar, and 1/4 tsp salt in a separate bowl.
  5. Stir in melted butter, remaining 1/2 cup sugar, egg, vanilla extract, and milk with the flour mixture until just combined.
  6. Drop spoonfuls of the dough evenly over the apple filling.
  7. Mix the remaining 2 tbsp of sugar with 1 tsp of cinnamon and sprinkle over the dough.
  8. Bake for 35 to 40 minutes until topping is golden brown and apples are bubbly.
  9. Let the cobbler rest for 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

Serve warm with ice cream or whipped cream. Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
