Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg
  • Sesame seeds (optional)

Instructions

  1. Activate the yeast: In a small bowl, combine warm water, yeast, and sugar. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
  2. Create the dry mixture: In a large bowl, mix flour and salt.
  3. Combine ingredients: Add the yeast mixture, milk, melted butter, and egg to the flour. Mix until a dough forms.
  4. Knead the dough: Knead for about 5-10 minutes on a floured surface until smooth.
  5. Let the dough rise: Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise for 1 hour until doubled in size.
  6. Shape the buns: Punch down the dough and divide it into 8 equal pieces. Shape each piece into a bun.
  7. Second rise: Place buns on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Cover and let rise for another 30 minutes.
  8. Preheat the oven: Preheat to 375°F (190°C).
  9. Brush and sprinkle: Optionally, brush with egg wash and sprinkle sesame seeds.
  10. Bake to perfection: Bake for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
  11. Let cool before using.
